Summit Carbon Solutions is developing the world's largest carbon capture and storage (CCS) project, building a multi-state underground pipeline system that captures CO2 emissions from ethanol plants across North Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota and permanently sequesters them approximately one mile below ground in deep geologic formations. The project is designed to capture and store more than 12 million metric tons of CO2 annually — equivalent to removing 2.6 million cars from the road per year — while reducing the carbon footprint of partner biorefineries by up to 50%. Created by Summit Agricultural Group in 2021, the company works with more than 30 ethanol plants and represents a major investment in the long-term competitiveness of Midwest biofuels and rural agricultural communities.
