MotherDuck is a serverless cloud data warehouse built in partnership with the DuckDB team. Co-founder Jordan Tigani, who helped turn Google's Dremel query engine into BigQuery, saw DuckDB and set out to build a serverless cloud version. DuckLabs founders Hannes Mühleisen and Mark Raasveldt joined as partners so the company could offer a commercial cloud product around DuckDB. The starting team first met in Seattle the week of June 20, 2022, with a singular focus on making it easy to query and understand data.
