Alpheus Medical is a private, clinical-stage biotechnology company headquartered in Chanhassen, Minnesota, developing Porphyrin Metabolite Activation (PoMA), a drug-led, tumor-selective oncology approach for the treatment of glioblastoma. The company's therapy is designed to activate 5-ALA-derived protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) localized within tumor tissue using proprietary low-intensity defocused ultrasound, enabling targeted pharmacologic activity without systemic side effects. Founded by Dr. Vijay Agarwal, Alpheus's lead program is currently being evaluated in a randomized Phase 2b clinical trial for newly diagnosed glioblastoma patients who continue standard-of-care treatment alongside the investigational therapy. In May 2025, Alpheus closed a $52 million Series B funding round to support the expanded clinical trial.
