Trillium

Trillium Renewable Chemicals is a Knoxville, Tennessee-based bio-based chemical manufacturer developing proprietary thermochemical technology to convert plant-based feedstocks (primarily glycerol) into acrylonitrile and acetonitrile — drop-in replacements for fossil-derived equivalents. Acrylonitrile is a key raw material for carbon fiber, ABS plastic, acrylic fiber, nitrile rubber, and other industrial materials. In June 2024, Trillium selected INEOS Nitriles' Green Lake facility in Port Lavaca, Texas to host 'Project Falcon,' the world's first bio-based acrylonitrile demonstration plant, which completed construction and began commissioning in Q2 2026. The company raised $13 million in Series B funding in May 2026, led by HS Hyosung Advanced Materials, bringing total funding to over $23 million including a prior $10.6M Series A and $2.5M DOE grant.
