LEP Inc. is an Osaka-based Japanese biotech startup developing genetically engineered bioluminescent plants that emit soft light without electricity. Using Nobel Prize-winning bioluminescent protein technology, LEP's self-glowing plants can produce light in up to 20 colors and are designed for applications in urban design, theme parks, agriculture, and sustainable energy measures. Founded in 2023, LEP raised a seed round of JPY 160 million (approximately $1.1M USD) including an JPY 80M investment from Kyoto University Innovation Capital (Kyoto iCAP) announced in December 2025.
