Latent Labs is a frontier AI research company building foundational generative models that capture the fundamental principles of biology. Founded by Dr. Simon Kohl, formerly a co-lead of Google DeepMind's protein design team and a senior research scientist on DeepMind's Nobel-prize winning AlphaFold project, the company is headquartered in London with a lab presence in San Francisco. Latent Labs empowers pharmaceutical and biotech partners with breakthrough generative AI tools to gain unprecedented control over molecular biology — creating new antibodies, optimizing existing enzymes, and advancing genetic engineering. The company has released multiple frontier models: Latent-X, a general-purpose model for de novo protein binder design; Latent-X2, a model for drug-like antibodies with low immunogenicity; and Latent-Y, the world's first lab-validated autonomous agent for drug design. Latent Labs emerged from stealth in February 2025 with $50 million in total funding, backed by investors including Radical Ventures, Sofinnova Partners, 8VC, Pillar VC, Kindred Capital, Isomer, and Flying Fish. Notable angel investors include Google Chief Scientist Jeff Dean, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and ElevenLabs founder Mati Staniszewski.
