Indiegogo is a leading global crowdfunding platform founded in January 2008 by Danae Ringelmann, Slava Rubin, and Eric Schell, and headquartered in San Francisco, California. The platform enables entrepreneurs, creators, nonprofits, and individuals to raise funds for ideas, projects, and causes from a global community of backers. Indiegogo supports a rewards-based model where contributors receive perks rather than equity in exchange for their support, and accepts campaigns across virtually every category — from technology hardware and consumer products to film, music, social causes, and personal needs. Campaigns can be configured as all-or-nothing fixed-goal fundraises or flexible-goal campaigns where funds are retained regardless of whether the target is met. Indiegogo charges a 5% platform fee on successful campaigns in addition to standard payment processing fees. As of 2014, over 200,000 campaigns had launched across more than 70 countries, making it one of the world's most globally accessible crowdfunding platforms. Notable campaigns include the Flow Hive (raising over $12 million), the Sondors Electric Bike ($5.86 million), and the film Super Troopers 2 ($4.51 million). The company raised a total of $56.5 million in venture funding including a $15 million Series A from Insight Venture Partners and Khosla Ventures in 2012 and a $40 million Series B in 2014. In July 2025, tabletop gaming crowdfunding platform Gamefound announced plans to acquire Indiegogo.
