HME Square

HME Square is a South Korean medical device company developing GlucoSOUND, a non-invasive continuous glucose monitoring device using photoacoustic sensing technology. The company's proprietary approach combines MEMS sensors and photoacoustics with deep learning to measure blood glucose levels by shining laser light on blood tissue and reading the ultrasonic waves emitted—eliminating the need for finger pricks or invasive implants. GlucoSOUND has demonstrated a mean absolute relative difference (MARD) of 7%, outperforming leading CGM devices from Abbott, Dexcom, and Medtronic. The technology platform can also be extended to monitor ketones, HbA1c, cholesterol, bilirubin, and creatinine in future phases. Founded in February 2020 by Yoonho Khang (a 20-year Samsung semiconductor veteran) and Sooah Im (a medical doctor), the company is based in Daejeon, South Korea. HME Square was designated as an Innovative Medical Device (No. 116) under the Korean Advanced Medical Device Act in November 2025, earned a CES 2023 Innovation Award, and in 2023 raised KRW 4.5 billion in Pre-A funding from LB Investment and KB Investment. The company plans a direct-to-consumer launch targeting people with diabetes at approximately $1,000 per two years of use.
