About

Hike Messenger is an Indian social media and messaging platform launched on December 12, 2012 by Kavin Bharti Mittal (son of Airtel founder Sunil Bharti Mittal). The app offered instant messaging, VoIP, sticker packs, Hike Offline SMS via credits, and was the first Indian social messaging app to launch a mobile payment service. At its peak, Hike had over 100 million registered users and a valuation of $1.4 billion — reaching unicorn status in just 3.7 years, the fastest in India at the time. The app went dormant in January 2021 due to competition from global platforms but re-appeared on app stores in September 2025.
