Heptagon Advanced Micro-Optics is a semiconductor and photonics company founded in 1993 and headquartered near Zurich, Switzerland, with volume manufacturing in Singapore. The company pioneered wafer-level micro-optical module technology and shipped over 2 billion units across its history. Heptagon's products include 3D imaging, proximity sensing, time-of-flight ranging, illumination, and connectivity modules used in smartphones and consumer electronics. The company had approximately 830 employees before being acquired by ams (now ams-OSRAM) in January 2017 for an undisclosed sum, making ams the worldwide leader in optical sensing.
