Rapidus Corporation is a Japanese advanced logic semiconductor foundry established in August 2022 with backing from eight major Japanese corporations and the Japanese government. The company is developing and manufacturing 2-nanometer gate-all-around (GAA) transistor technology in partnership with IBM, with its Innovative Integration for Manufacturing (IIM-1) facility located in Chitose, Hokkaido. Rapidus opened its pilot line in April 2025 and successfully demonstrated working 2nm GAA transistors in July 2025. The company targets mass production of 2nm-class logic semiconductors by 2027, positioning Japan alongside TSMC and Intel at the cutting edge of chip fabrication.
