Element Zero

Element Zero is a Perth, Western Australia-based green materials startup founded in 2022, developing a patented non-aqueous alkaline electrochemical process to convert metal ores — including iron ore, nickel ore, titanium, tin, and silica — into pure metal with zero carbon emissions. The process operates at low temperature using intermittent renewable energy (wind, solar, hydropower) and requires 30–40% less processing energy than conventional methods, with no membranes and no fossil fuels. The company's Pilbara Iron Super Hub project, located at the Boodarie Strategic Industrial Area near Port Hedland, WA, targets 5 million tonnes/year of iron ore feed scaling to 20 million tonnes/year (~US$9B revenue), exporting green iron to North and Southeast Asian markets. Element Zero raised a US$10M seed round in January 2024 led by Playground Global. The company was named a BNEF Pioneer and was recognized by NearZeroSteel.
