Cleanwatts

Cleanwatts is a Portuguese climate tech company founded in 2020 that accelerates the energy transition through the development of distributed solar energy projects and renewable energy communities. The company invests in, develops, and operates solar power plants at clients' facilities, enabling organizations to consume renewable energy with zero upfront investment and predictable long-term energy costs. Cleanwatts pioneered the energy community model in Portugal, launching the country's first Renewable Energy Community in Miranda do Douro in August 2021. Through its platform, locally produced solar energy is shared with nearby businesses, organizations, and consumers, creating economic, environmental, and social benefits. As of 2026, the company operates over 70 energy communities across Portugal and continues to expand across Europe, with a mission to decentralize, digitalize, and democratize access to clean energy.
