CipherTrust was an enterprise email and messaging security company based in Alpharetta, Georgia, best known for its IronMail gateway appliance that prevented email-based data leaks and blocked spam, and its IronIM product for securing instant messaging. The company invented the TrustedSource reputation system, which provided reputation scores for IP addresses, URLs, domains, and email content, and became foundational to enterprise anti-spam infrastructure. CipherTrust was acquired by Secure Computing Corporation in August 2006 for approximately $273.6 million; Secure Computing was subsequently acquired by McAfee in 2008, folding CipherTrust's technologies into McAfee's security portfolio.
