The Claude 'Bud' Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant is the largest seawater desalination facility in the Western Hemisphere, located in Carlsbad, California, and opened in December 2015. Built by Poseidon Water and now operated under Channelside Water Resources (owned by Orion Water Partners), the plant uses reverse osmosis to produce over 50 million gallons of drinking water per day, supplying approximately 10% of the San Diego region's water demand. The facility was designed by IDE Technologies and delivers water to the San Diego County Water Authority under a long-term water purchase agreement.
