Carbon Bridge

CarbonBridge is a San Jose, California-based cleantech company founded in 2021 that develops compact, highly efficient direct-gas bioreactors for converting methane into renewable methanol using proprietary microbial bioconversion. Unlike traditional bioreactors that rely on bubble-based gas delivery, CarbonBridge's platform eliminates solubility barriers through a direct-gas processing technology that operates at low temperatures and pressures with a modular, scalable design. The system achieves more than a fourfold improvement in gas-to-product conversion efficiency compared to competing bioreactors, responds to process changes in under 60 seconds, and operates on a 'bring-your-own-bug' model enabling clients to deploy their own biology. The resulting carbon-negative renewable methanol is targeted primarily at marine fuels markets. CarbonBridge is backed by ARPA-E (under the GREENWELLS program, with an award of approximately $719,881), SOSV (IndieBio accelerator), and investors including Coeus Collective Ventures and REFASHIOND Ventures. The company received the $100,000 Orcelle award from Ocean Exchange in 2024 and has raised over $2.6 million in total funding.
