Barocal is a University of Cambridge spin-out commercialising refrigerant-gas-free cooling and heating based on solid barocaloric materials. Founded by Professor Xavier Moya after more than a decade of caloric-materials research, the company applies pressure to proprietary solids to transfer heat instead of cycling high-GWP refrigerant gases. Its inexpensive, plentiful materials are designed to help the cooling industry meet rising demand while cutting leakage and greenhouse emissions across HVAC and refrigeration applications.
