Backbone (Backbone Labs) is a Palo Alto-based consumer electronics and software company that creates mobile gaming hardware and a companion app platform. Founded in 2018 by CEO Maneet Khaira — a Columbia University student at the time — Backbone produces the Backbone One and Backbone Pro controllers that transform iPhones and Android smartphones into portable gaming consoles compatible with Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation Remote Play, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Apple Arcade, Steam Link, and other cloud and mobile gaming platforms. The Backbone app serves as a gaming hub with a unified games library, social features, and play-from-anywhere functionality. The company's team includes veterans from Apple, Google, and Meta. Backbone has attracted major gaming brand partnerships, including limited editions with major franchises, and competes directly with Razer and other mobile gaming controller makers. Backbone is headquartered in Atherton/Palo Alto, California with additional offices in Seattle, Washington.
