Atheros Communications was an American fabless semiconductor company founded in 1998 in Santa Clara, California. It specialized in developing highly integrated chipsets for wireless LAN (Wi-Fi), Bluetooth, GPS, and other network communications. Atheros was a pioneer in 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi silicon, combining RF, mixed-signal, and digital semiconductor design. The company was acquired by Qualcomm in May 2011 for approximately $3.7 billion, becoming Qualcomm Atheros.
