Andes

Andes is a biotechnology company that develops and deploys beneficial microorganisms to enable large-scale carbon dioxide removal from the atmosphere via agricultural soils. Founded in 2018 in Emeryville, California, Andes engineers microbial strains that are added to soil alongside agricultural seeds — where they accelerate the natural conversion of CO₂ into stable soil inorganic carbon, effectively locking atmospheric carbon away durably and safely. The company's technology integrates seamlessly into existing farm operations for corn, soybean, canola, and wheat, and also developed 'Microprime', a microbial seed treatment that enables biological nitrogen fixation to reduce synthetic fertilizer use. Andes raised a $15 million Series A in 2021 co-led by Leaps by Bayer and Cavallo Ventures.
