AI Optics is a digital health and medical device company spun out of New York University (NYU), focused on building products that prevent vision loss and blindness. The company developed the Sentinel Camera, an FDA-cleared handheld imaging device built with proprietary optical technology for capturing digital images of the human eye. Its next-generation product, Sentinel Pro, adds on-device AI software to identify and diagnose retinal diseases including Diabetic Retinopathy, Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), and Glaucoma. AI Optics targets the widespread barriers to specialist eye care — including lack of access, cost, and inconvenience — by enabling non-specialist care providers to conduct AI-assisted retinal screenings anywhere. The platform is designed to be simple to use, easy to implement, and cost-effective, extending diagnostic capability into primary care and underserved settings.
