Aether AI develops causal world models that enable AI systems to understand underlying mechanisms, reason about interventions, and operate reliably in complex real-world environments. Founded by UC San Diego causality researcher Prof. Biwei Huang, the company builds AI that reasons through causal mechanisms rather than statistical correlations — connecting observation, latent state, mechanism, action, and outcome. Its initial commercial focus is physical robotics, where causal reasoning is critical for understanding contact, force, and dynamics, with a second application area in scientific discovery. Aether raised a $20 million seed round in June 2026 led by MPCi, with participation from Inno Angel Fund, SWC Global, and Unity Ventures.
