Acousia Therapeutics GmbH is a clinical-stage biotech company based in Tübingen, Germany, focused on developing novel small molecule drugs to treat sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). Founded in 2012 by Hubert Löwenheim, the company operates under an exclusive collaboration with the Translational Hearing Research Group of Tübingen University Clinic. Acousia's lead drug candidates—ACOU085 (INN: Bimokalner) and ACOU082—are Kv7.4 activators with a dual mode of action suitable for both acute and chronic hearing loss. ACOU085 completed a Phase 2 PROHEAR study evaluating otoprotection against cisplatin-induced hearing loss in testicular cancer patients, with positive topline results reported in 2026. ACOU082 is in development for chronic hearing loss, hearing aid synergistic enhancement, and CNS indications. Sensorineural hearing loss affects more than 90% of the 1.5 billion people worldwide with hearing impairment, with no approved pharmacological treatments currently available.
