PitchBook alternatives for startup research and API workflows

Start with the research task, not the size of a vendor’s database. Looking up a startup’s funding history is different from evaluating a private equity fund or comparing deal multiples. Indexed is our product; this guide explains where our narrower technology-company focus may fit and where it does not. We have not benchmarked PitchBook’s authenticated product.

PitchBook sources checked September 30, 2026. Check current terms with each provider.

Choose around the question you need answered

Your workflowWhat to evaluate
Find technology companies and their fundingTry Indexed’s public profiles and ranked lists. Check source links and coverage on companies you actually research.
Add company context to an internal tool or AI agentTest domain-to-company lookup, match identity, missing-field behavior and credit usage before scaling.
Evaluate funds, LPs or complex capital-market dealsPitchBook lists fund, LP, public-company and credit datasets. Indexed is not a replacement for that broader institutional research scope.
Cite a reproducible public datasetUse Indexed’s reports and dated open datasets; retain the edition date and methodology with your citation.

Compare access as well as coverage

PitchBook’s pricing page asks buyers to request a quote based on seats, firm type and additional offerings. Its data page describes API, data-feed, CRM and LLM integrations. API and AI access are therefore not unique to Indexed; compare the licensed datasets and terms for your intended workflow.

Indexed offers self-serve plans and a REST API on every plan, Free included. Free includes 25 individual API searches per day. Zero-result searches do not count or incur a charge. Paid plans continue above their daily quota at 1 credit per page. Batch domain lookup is charged separately per delivered hit. See the current prices and API limits and billing rules. Coverage focuses on technology and product companies, including bootstrapped businesses, their funding and investor relationships. A missing field remains missing; a coverage request does not promise that the record will be added.

Run a small coverage test before committing

  1. Pick companies from your real work across the countries, sectors and stages you care about. Include less famous names.
  2. Confirm each company’s website and identity. Compare source-backed funding histories, not just a headline total; distinguish equity, debt and exits.
  3. Decide which fields your workflow requires. Count usable, correctly matched records separately from empty results or incomplete profiles.
  4. For an integration, follow the lookup guide. Check credits, pagination, null values and retry handling on a small batch first. Keep API keys on your server.

This is an evaluation method, not a coverage claim. It gives you a better basis for choosing a provider than a total profile count or a promise that every company is complete.
