Youku (优酷, meaning 'excellent and cool') is one of China's top online video streaming platforms and a core business of Alibaba Group. Founded in 2005 by Victor Koo and headquartered in Beijing, Youku offers on-demand video, live streaming, original productions, and licensed content spanning drama, film, variety shows, and animation. After merging with Tudou in 2012 to form Youku Tudou Inc., the company was fully acquired by Alibaba Group in 2015. Today Youku ranks as China's third-largest video platform by audience, behind Tencent Video and iQIYI, with billions of monthly video views and a catalogue spanning thousands of hours of original and licensed programming.
