Weaviate

Weaviate is an open-source, cloud-native vector database that enables semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and AI-native application development at scale. It stores both objects and vector embeddings, combining vector similarity search with structured filtering, hybrid search, and built-in reranking. Weaviate supports automatic vectorization via integrated models (OpenAI, Cohere, HuggingFace) or direct import of pre-computed embeddings. Founded in 2019 in Amsterdam, Netherlands by Bob van Luijt and Etienne Dilocker as SeMI Technologies, backed by Index Ventures, Battery Ventures, and NEA.
