About

Wavve (웨이브) is South Korea's largest subscription video on-demand (SVOD) and over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform, founded on September 18, 2019 as a joint venture between SK Telecom (operating through SK Square) and three major terrestrial broadcasters — KBS, MBC, and SBS. The service distributes TV series, films, documentaries, variety shows, animations, and sports content, with a significant investment in original programming including acclaimed series such as Weak Hero Class 1 and Bitch x Rich. Wavve announced a 1 trillion won (approximately $885 million) commitment to original content production. In June 2025, South Korea's Fair Trade Commission conditionally approved a merger between Wavve and rival streaming platform TVING, subject to subscription fee caps through end of 2026. Wavve is majority-owned by SK Square (40.5%), with KBS, MBC, and SBS each holding approximately 19.8%.
