Maison Valentino was formally founded in 1960 by Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti, an architecture student from Rome who paired his strategic approach with Garavani's visionary talent. Garavani, born in Voghera in 1932, opened his first atelier in Rome on Via Condotti and debuted his first Haute Couture collection. The Maison later expanded internationally, opening boutiques in Paris, Milan (1969), Rome, New York (1970), London (1974), and Tokyo (1976).
