The Bioreactor

The Bioreactor is a Tallinn, Estonia-based cleantech startup founded in 2022 by Kim Forsman and co-founders. Its flagship 45 kW Bioreactor unit uses intelligent biomass gasification to convert carbonaceous feedstock into on-site heat and electricity, applying computational fluid dynamics, deep learning, and digital-twin technology to optimize the thermochemical reaction process in real time across varying fuels and operating conditions. The company positions its technology as a cost-effective, sustainable embedded energy solution that helps households, communities, and microgrids reach energy self-sufficiency while lowering emissions and energy costs. In March 2023 Bioreactor closed a pre-seed funding round led by Hiidenkivi Investment Oy and Grid.vc to fund production and delivery of its first 25 pilot installations, targeting roughly 10 GWh of annual energy generation.
