Its portfolio spans the SolarWinds Observability platform, network tools descended from its flagship Orion suite, and Service Desk for ITSM, sold by subscription across self-hosted and SaaS deployments. The company was the vector of the December 2020 SUNBURST supply-chain attack, in which nation-state actors compromised Orion software updates distributed to thousands of customers. Publicly traded on the NYSE from 2018 after an earlier 2009-2016 listing, SolarWinds was taken private by Turn/River Capital in 2025 in an all-cash transaction of approximately $4.4 billion ($18.50 per share) and employs roughly 2,800 people.
