World-record efficiency multi-junction solar cells
Solar Junction was a San Jose-based manufacturer of high-efficiency III-V multi-junction solar cells based on its proprietary ASLAM (Advanced Step-graded Lattice-matched) materials technology. Founded in 2007, the company developed dilute-nitride multi-junction solar cells for concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) systems and space applications, achieving world-record solar cell efficiency of 44% in 2012. Solar Junction supplied CPV cells to customers including Amonix and positioned itself as the performance leader in the multi-junction cell market. The company raised approximately $33 million in venture funding before ceasing operations.
