Silvercar was founded in 2012 in Austin, Texas as a technology-first car rental startup focused on eliminating the friction of traditional airport rental experiences. The service offered a single-model fleet of Audi A4 sedans bookable entirely through a mobile app, with no lines, no paperwork, and no upsells. Silvercar launched its first location at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in January 2013 and expanded to airports across the US. Audi led a $28 million investment in 2016 and fully acquired Silvercar in July 2017, subsequently rebranding it as 'Silvercar by Audi.' The company was backed by investors including Austin Ventures and has been a notable example of startup disruption in the legacy rental car industry.
