Sentropy Technologies was founded in 2018 by John Redgrave, Michele Banko, Taylor Rhyne, and Ethan Breder — machine learning experts specializing in fighting online abuse. The company's platform supercharged content moderation with proactive, bias-aware detection capabilities deployable at scale. Products included Sentropy Defend (end-to-end moderation workflow browser interface) and Sentropy Detect (tools to identify abuse, discover behavioral trends, and support moderation decisions). Sentropy raised $13M from Initialized Capital, King River Capital, Horizons Ventures, Playground Global, and angel investors from Riot Games, Nextdoor, OpenAI, and Twitch. The company was acquired by Discord in July 2021.
