Pioneering a new category of digital medicine
Proteus Digital Health was a Redwood City, CA-based digital health company founded in 2001. The company developed FDA-cleared ingestible biosensors embedded in pills that communicated with a wearable patch to confirm medication ingestion. Once valued at $1.5 billion, Proteus filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2020. Its assets were subsequently acquired by Otsuka Pharmaceutical in August 2020.
