Prime Roots is a Berkeley-based food technology company that uses koji mycelium (fungi) as a protein base to create plant-based alternatives to deli meats and charcuterie products. Founded out of UC Berkeley's Alt:Meat Lab, Prime Roots produces non-GMO, whole-cut deli-style products — including ham, turkey, and cured meats — that replicate the taste and texture of conventional meat. The company is a certified B-Corp and has expanded nationally into grocery deli cases.
