Platfora, Inc. was a big data analytics company based in San Mateo, California, founded on June 1, 2011 by Ben Werther. The company built what became the leading native Big Data Analytics platform for Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark, enabling any business user — not just data engineers — to explore, interact with, and derive insights from massive datasets through an intuitive, dynamic visual interface. Platfora's software delivered query results in real time via a graphical user interface, allowing corporate and government data analysts to filter results, drag and drop fields to create graphs, overlays, and visualizations, and share those findings across their organizations. Bloomberg Businessweek described it as 'Big Data for Dummies.' The company raised over $43 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Battery Ventures, Sutter Hill Ventures, Tenaya Capital, Citi Ventures, Cisco, and In-Q-Tel. In 2012, Platfora acquired Plot.io for its browser-based data visualization technology. Platfora was acquired by Workday, Inc. in July 2016.
