Pivotal Software was a San Francisco-based software and services company spun out of EMC Corporation and VMware in 2012. Built around the Cloud Foundry open-source platform-as-a-service, Pivotal offered cloud-native application development tools, the Greenplum big data database, Spring Framework, RabbitMQ, and enterprise consulting through Pivotal Labs. The company raised $1.78 billion in funding, went public on the NYSE in April 2018, and was acquired by VMware for $2.7 billion in December 2019.
