Ultra-Compact MEMS Laser Beam Scanning for Augmented Reality
OQmented is a deep-tech spinout from the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology (ISIT) in Itzehoe, Germany, founded in 2018 by Thomas von Wantoch and Dr. Ulrich Hofmann. The company develops fully integrated, ultra-compact MEMS mirror-based laser beam scanning (LBS) engines for AR/VR smart glasses and best-in-class 3D sensing solutions. OQmented introduced the industry's first one-chip MEMS mirror-based LBS solution, combining biaxial MEMS mirrors with proprietary electronics, software, and hermetic vacuum encapsulation technology. The company has offices across Germany (Itzehoe HQ, Kiel, Jena) and Silicon Valley. Investors include Salvia, Vsquared Ventures, and Sharp (strategic). Series A raised $20M; total funding approximately $35M.
