OPTMASS Co., Ltd. is a Kyoto University spin-out developing transparent solar cells that generate electricity by selectively absorbing infrared light, which accounts for approximately 44% of sunlight. Unlike conventional opaque solar panels, OPTMASS's technology maintains window-level transparency and visible light transmission, enabling building windows, glass facades, and other surfaces to produce electricity without compromising natural lighting or aesthetics. The company is simultaneously advancing heat-shielding nanoparticle technology that controls and absorbs infrared thermal radiation, targeting applications in commercial buildings and urban infrastructure. Founded with the mission of achieving decentralized, local energy production and consumption, OPTMASS is working toward a carbon-neutral society through the commercialization of its transparent photovoltaic products.
