Opaque

Opaque is a confidential AI platform that enables enterprises to run AI and agentic workflows on sensitive data without sacrificing privacy or compliance. Born out of UC Berkeley's RISELab — the lab behind Databricks and Apache Spark — Opaque was co-founded by Professor Ion Stoica, Professor Raluca Ada Popa, and colleagues who open-sourced the MC2 (Multiparty Collaboration and Competition) framework for privacy-preserving joint analytics. The platform runs inside a customer's own cloud environment using confidential computing (trusted execution environments), providing cryptographic verification of data privacy and sovereignty. Opaque supports Python and Apache Spark workloads and integrates with popular AI frameworks, enabling organizations in financial services, healthcare, and insurance to collaborate on sensitive datasets and deploy AI faster without the usual security trade-offs. The company is headquartered in San Francisco and has raised $55.5M in total funding.
