Wave-powered desalination. Zero emissions. Fresh water to shore.
Ocean Oasis is a Norwegian cleantech company that uses wave energy to produce desalinated freshwater from the ocean. Their offshore desalination buoys harness wave power directly to drive the reverse osmosis process, requiring no external energy source and producing zero emissions. A single buoy produces between 500 and 2,000 cubic meters of fresh water per day depending on wave conditions, and fleets of buoys can deliver industrial-scale output via seabed pipelines to shore. The company's business model is to build, own, and operate desalination buoys and sell water through long-term contracts of 10 to 25 years. Ocean Oasis has validated its technology through a full-scale pilot (the 'Gaia' buoy) in Gran Canaria, secured over €10M in grants, and signed its first commercial customer — the public water utility of Gran Canaria — under the EU LIFE-funded DesaLIFE Project. The company targets coastal and island markets where water stress coincides with significant wave resources, with the Canary Islands as the beachhead and Africa as the next expansion frontier.
