Next-Ion develops aerogel-based battery separator technology for safety and ultrafast charging. The company produces boron nitride aerogel, described as the lightest solid, for thermal insulating materials, supercapacitors, and batteries. Its separator is designed so cells can charge faster without the heat-shrink failure common in incumbent separators, supporting high-performance batteries that do not explode. Next-Ion has been an NSF SBIR Phase I recipient for this separator work and has competed in LG Nova, LG Chem, Hyundai, and Kia battery challenges.
