NeedEnergy is a Techstars 2023 alumnus and energy-tech startup based in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The company's Memeza.ai platform aggregates data from IoT devices including gas and electricity smart meters to profile energy demand across the distribution grid. Machine learning models trained on this data identify optimal deployment locations for renewable energy generation assets. After deployment, the platform monitors and manages installed solar and clean energy assets to guarantee performance. NeedEnergy is building virtual power plants (VPPs) that enable distributed energy resources to trade electrons across Zimbabwe's distribution grid, reducing load shedding and replacing coal-based power with renewable alternatives. The company has received funding from Factor E, Investisseurs & Partenaires (Gaia Impact), and EEP Africa.
