NanoPhoria is a Milan-based, preclinical-stage biotechnology company and spin-off from Italy's National Research Council (CNR), founded in 2022 by Daniele Catalucci, Michele Iafisco, Alessio Alogna, and Claudio De Luca. The company is pioneering the next generation of cardiovascular treatments through its proprietary Nano-in-Micro delivery platform, which uses inorganic Calcium Phosphate (CaP) nanoparticles embedded in highly respirable microparticles to enable inhalation-based delivery of therapeutic peptides and RNAs directly to cardiac tissue. NanoPhoria's lead product, NP-MP1, is an inhalable formulation of a first-in-class calcium channel modulator peptide targeting Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection Fraction (HFrEF), a chronic syndrome affecting millions worldwide. The company's lung-to-heart delivery approach is designed as a non-viral, scalable alternative to traditional systemic drug administration, offering precise, tissue-directed treatment with a favorable safety profile. NanoPhoria has published milestone research in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology demonstrating NP-MP1's ability to improve ejection fraction by 17% ±6% in animal models. In October 2025, the company set a record for the largest-ever Italian Series A biotech raise, securing €83.5 million led by XGEN Venture, Sofinnova Partners, and CDP Venture Capital, with Panakès Partners participating. The company has also received a €17.5 million award from the European Innovation Council's Accelerator Program.
