About
Mass Appeal is an American media and content company based in New York City, founded in 1996 as a graffiti fanzine by Patrick Elasik and Adrian Moeller. The company grew from an underground magazine documenting hip-hop and graffiti culture into a multi-faceted entertainment enterprise encompassing a magazine, record label (Mass Appeal Records), film and television production, and a full-service creative agency. In 2013, rapper Nas and a group of investors relaunched and expanded the brand, merging it with creative firm Decon. Mass Appeal Records, founded in 2014, released Run the Jewels 2 — named the #1 album of 2014 by Pitchfork — and has since released music from Nas, DJ Shadow, J Dilla, and Dave East. The company's film and TV work includes Netflix's eight-part documentary series Rapture and the Sundance-selected documentary Fresh Dressed. In June 2018, Mass Appeal entered an exclusive global distribution agreement with Universal Music Group.
