Luxtera was a Carlsbad, California-based semiconductor company that pioneered silicon photonics technology for high-speed optical interconnects used in webscale and enterprise data centers. Founded in 2001 as a Caltech spin-out, Luxtera was the first company to integrate high-performance photonic components on standard CMOS chips. Cisco acquired Luxtera in February 2019 for $660 million.
