Lightmill is pioneering a new category in manufacturing called large-format laser milling, which enables hardware teams to produce precision metal parts in hours rather than weeks. The company's system uses a high-powered laser to ablate raw bar stock layer by layer, guided by an automated slicer reading a standard CAD file — eliminating the need for trained machinists, expensive feedstock, or post-processing. Lightmill's technology scales a precision process once limited to micron-level features by more than 100x, making on-demand in-house metal part production practical for the first time. The workflow requires only three steps: load a CAD file, load bar stock, and remove the finished part.
