Kurion

Kurion was a nuclear and hazardous waste treatment technology company founded in 2008 by John Raymont and headquartered in Irvine, California, specializing in Ion Specific Media separation, robotics, and modular and GeoMelt in-container vitrification systems that convert radioactive waste into stable glass for permanent disposal. The company gained international prominence as the only U.S. operator selected to work on water cleanup at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant following the 2011 disaster, removing over 99% of contaminated-water radioactivity, and later expanded via its 2012 acquisition of GeoMelt Technologies. Veolia Environnement acquired Kurion for $350 million in 2016, absorbing its technology into Veolia's nuclear facility cleanup and radioactive waste treatment business.
