Group messaging app for real-world social activities
IRL (In Real Life) was a San Francisco-based social networking app designed for group event coordination and calendar sharing, aimed at Gen Z users as an alternative to Facebook Events. Founded in 2017 by Abraham Shafi, the company raised over $200 million including a SoftBank-led $170 million Series C at a $1.17 billion valuation. The company shut down in June 2023 after an internal investigation found 95% of its reported 20 million users were bots.
