About

Ingenix was a wholly-owned subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group and one of the largest health information and analytics businesses in the United States. Created in 1996 as UnitedHealth Group reorganized its health services businesses, Ingenix collected, sorted, and analyzed large-scale healthcare data to provide technology, services, and consulting to payers, providers, pharmaceutical companies, and government agencies. With over 30,000 employees across the combined Optum businesses by 2011 and combined revenues of approximately $25 billion, Ingenix operated two primary divisions: Ingenix Health Intelligence and Ingenix Pharmaceutical Services. In April 2011, UnitedHealth Group announced a brand unification under the Optum master brand; Ingenix was renamed OptumInsight effective over the subsequent 12 months, under the leadership of CEO Andy Slavitt. OptumInsight later merged with Change Healthcare (acquired in 2022 for over $13 billion) to expand its software, data analytics, and revenue cycle management capabilities. Ingenix itself no longer exists as a standalone entity — it is now fully subsumed into Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services platform.
